UFC 81: place your bets

So we got a few fights tonight. Where to start? I will only be focusing on the two Heavyweight fights to keep it short. And to keep it simple, I’m posting the lines from bodoglife.com, however you can choose to go with betus.com if you have an account with them already, or if you like to bet the over/under. Here are the lines as of now, with the favorites in bold:

Sat, Feb 2nd (11:30pm EST) (bodog lines)
Brock Lesnar -150 UPDATE: -165

Frank Mir +120 UPDATE: +135

BetUS over/under – Over 1½ +150 Under 1½ -200

And before the main event:

Sat, Feb 2nd (11:00pm EST) (bodog lines)
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira -160

Tim Sylvia +130

BetUS over/under – Over 2½ -160 Under 2½ +120

What does all of this mean? Take the Lesnar vs. Mir fight for example: Here Brock Lesnar is the favorite, which means you have to put up $1.50 for every dollar you can win. So, bet $150 on Lesnar, and if he wins, you win $100, if he loses then you’ve just lost $150. Frank Mir is the underdog, +120 meaning that you win $1.20 for every dollar bet. So, if you bet $100, you can win $120.

There is also an over/under option (only on BetUS.com), in which the number of rounds the fight is predicted to go is set. As you can see, the over/unders are listed under each fight. Payout works the same way as the money lines. Take the Lesnar vs. Mir fight for example: it is set at “under 1.5 rounds” with Lesnar the favorite. If you think the fight will last under 1.5 rounds, you’ll have to wager $2 for every dollar you want to win. Example: Bet $200 on the under, and if the fight ends in under 1.5 rounds (3 round fights btw), you win $100. If you decide to bet the over, and you bet $100 and the fight lasts over 1.5 rounds, you’ll win $150.

Tips: keep in mind what type of fighters are fighting. If two guys are gonna throw haymakers the entire time, you probably don’t want to go with the Over bet. If you’re new to UFC, I would check out the fighter’s histories: see why type of fighters, their records, and watch any past fights between the two fighters. And remember, the money lines listed are bodog’s, while the over/unders are BetUS.

I’m going with the favorites – Lesnar and Nogueira for the dubya’s; I’d rather watch paint dry then Tim Sylvia fight anyway. For more info, visit MMA on Tap , tons of useful info on this site.
